Orangutan Outreach was founded in 2007 by Richard Zimmerman after he witnessed firsthand the devastation facing Critically Endangered orangutans in Indonesia: widespread rainforest destruction and hundreds of orphaned orangutans in underfunded rescue centers.

Fighting to save orangutans from extinction, Orangutan Outreach works alongside partners around the world to raise millions in support of rescue, rehabilitation, release, and long‑term protection of orangutans and their forests.
